Description
'En ha-ḳore was written by Jacob Hart, pen name Elyakim ben Avraham (1745-1814). A Londonborn Jew and jeweler by trade, Hart became the finest Jewish scholar of his generation in England.
He published five small volumes, including Ma'amar Binah L'Itim, an essay on messianic speculation, in which he argues that the messianic redemption began in the year 1783. He writes "Know then, that the year 1783 was indeed the End of Days. in that year peace and freedom was declared for the inhabitants of America. From there that light of freedom spread and reached France. it continues to light up the world, urging the world to rid itself of its abominations."
He also wrote about Kabbalah, science, and the Hebrew language. 'En ha-ḳore is a treatise on Hebrew grammar.
This copy has numerous signatures and markings inside the front and back covers, including the signature of Hayim ben ḳoh Yozpah Levin.
